Finally in Chiapas

I had heard about the wonders of Chiapas so many times.. and finally it was set, i was going to spend my Easter break there! Probably it was not the best time of the year, as it was HIGH season and it was very warm down there... but my cousin Lily, a swedish friend on visit Daniel, and me were set to have a blast!

And yes, it all started kinda blasty at the airport in Mexico City.. we had a flight to Tuxtla Gutierrez around 7am and surprisingly we made it on time, half awake, but on time. However, even when we were sitting at the airport since 5.30am, we managed to miss it! Luckily we were put in the next flight, which was around 11am instead.. and of course that meant we also lost our car rental reservation.. but after we got there and begged for a vehicle during some time, we got it! No air conditioning but we had a car and I was designated driver! Woohoo!

Our tour started in Tuxtla and our first destination was Palenque... we took the highway to Villahermosa and then a freeway to Palenque.. we got there around 8pm and started looking for accommodation.. one would expect that if you make an online reservation, you dont have much to worry about.. you just drive to your hotel and thats it... well, why make it easy when you can have it more complicated?... It turned out due to the extremely high season nobody cared much about the online bookings and the few rooms left available were too damn expensive to even consider them.. we ended up finding an acceptable room around 11pm!

Next day we almost melt while visiting the mayan ruins but it was all worth it! The scenery was amazing.. the rainforest made such a great contrast with the pyramids.. and the package was beautiful!

We continued our car trip back to Tuxtla but on the way we made stops in the Misol-Ha & Agua Azul waterfalls, San Cristobal de las Casas, Cañon del Sumidero (which was a greaaat boat trip.. i had never seen anything like that before, in a way i think its a bit similar to the Norwegian fjords), Chiapa de Corzo, and not to forget.. we also stopped at a militar base for a routine inspection..

One of the things that was really great about this trip was the whole driving thing.. i so much enjoyed driving those winding, narrow, scary roads! It was awesome to see the cliffs and crazy to see the curves and the height! We experienced really warm weather and we also saw snow, we saw palms and pine trees, jungle and forest.. All in the same state, during the same day, no more than 2 hour drive distance... i really really liked Chiapas and im looking forward to go there again during the lowest season! :)... Hopefully i get to have a beer with Subcommander Marcos next time too!

Ah, to give this trip a grand finale... we came back to Mexico City only to see Mexico beat the US in a match for World Cup qualifications! Oeeeoeoeoeoeeee!

People gets married..

.. and whether i believe it or not.. so do my friends!

Yoshii is the guy who dragged me to AIESEC some years back, smartass as he is, he told me i would meet hot swedes if i joined... and i of course couldnt say no!

Hes the guy who would wear a business suit cover & hanger as a costume during a party, hes the guy who would win a sex-change party competition dressed up like a Geisha, hes the guy who would come up with the silliest ideas and make them be really fun...

6 years after that.. hes wearing a tux, a ring and hes saying the typical 'I do' while fireworks are bursting in the background... who would have thought?!
